WWE Superstars joined 2,500 athletes and Unified Partners, 500-plus coaches and nearly 3,000 volunteers at the Special Olympics Connecticut Summer Games from June 10-12 in the New Haven area.

On Saturday and Sunday, Mark Henry, Neville and Paige signed autographs and presented medals to Summer Games winners at Olympic Town. On Friday night, Titus O’Neil and WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte joined NBC Connecticut meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan as hosts of the Summer Games Opening Ceremonies at Southern Connecticut State University’s Jess Dow Field. They cheered on the Parade of Athletes and witnessed the Ceremonial Lighting of the Special Olympics Flame before the games kicked off.

WWE has been partners with Special Olympics Connecticut since 2013. As part of the partnership, WWE raises awareness and funds for Special Olympics Connecticut’s mission via all its assets, including TV broadcasts, live events, digital and social media. WWE’s more than 700 employees headquartered in Connecticut volunteer at Special Olympics Connecticut events in the area, and WWE makes an annual financial contribution to the charitable organization.

WWE was also a presenting sponsor of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, Special Olympics Connecticut’s largest grassroots, year-round fundraising and public awareness event. As part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, more than 1,500 officers and athletes run and carry the “Flame of Hope” across Connecticut for three days, June 8-10. The final leg of the run ended at the Opening Ceremonies Friday night.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
