The Independent UK: Paige excited by ‘freak and the geek’ partnership with AJ Lee
WrestleMania is only one day away and The Independent had a chance to talk with Paige in California, ahead of her tag-team match alongside AJ Lee against the Bella Twins. This will be two-time Divas Champion’s first match at the “Granddaddy of Them All” and she will be teaming up with someone she has spent the last year rivaling with.
“I love partnering and going against AJ both as equally as each other as we can do some really crazy stuff either way.” Paige said.
“We are these two weird and quirky chicks and we like to think of ourselves as the freak and the geek. We aren’t afraid to be ourselves if we are on the same team or against each other.
“We always end up fighting each other anyway so hopefully she doesn’t turn against me at WrestleMania!”
Paige made her debut on the Raw after WrestleMania last year by surprisingly challenging AJ for her Divas Championship and successfully winning. The Norwich native explained how the call up had made her feel honoured to be part of a wave of British wrestlers that have found success wrestling on the big stage in the United States.
“It feels amazing as we always want to be history makers as there were not a lot of independent or British wrestlers that were coming up before so it makes us proud as it makes us feel we had something to do with the influx of British talent.
“I’ve had a year on the road now so I know how to physically prepare myself it was dropped on me last minute but now I’ve become used to being around.”
The 22-year old finished with some advice for those wrestlers that are currently emerging on the British wrestling scene that are looking to become WWE Superstars in the future.
“Around this time last year I got told by The Rock to be humble and hungry all the time so I make sure I apply that to myself everyday and I tell those coming up to keep passionate and patient.”
Michael talks about how far she has come in the last year. Michael mentions that Corey knows her from NXT.
Corey asks her where does she go from here. Paige says she wants to be on every pay per view. She wants to be the longest reigning Divas Champion. She hopes to be in the Hall of Fame.
Michael asks Paige about the issues that she had with AJ, but he mentions they get resolved a little on Smackdown. She is asked about the differences she has with the Bellas. Paige says that they want to take the Bellas down. Paige says that she did what she could while AJ was gone. They are very similar because they both want to win.
Michael says that AJ talked about how the Bellas were the ‘prototypical’ Divas but AJ and Paige are not in that mold. She says that they like to represent people who like to be themselves. They don’t mind being weirdoes.
Booker asks if the Bellas are jealous of Paige. Paige says they are. As a team, they can be unstoppable.
Paige is asked about being on Total Divas and Paige says it is ‘Total Paige’.
Michael tells Paige to soak in her first Wrestlemania. He points out that if she wins, they will both be undefeated.
MTV UK: Paige Fancies Rumbling With Steve Austin, Dean Ambrose And Bray Wyatt!
There’s no doubting WWE’s former two-time Divas champion Paige can look after herself in the ring, but we didn’t expect her to throw down and call out Stone Cold Steve Austin, Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt…
The Norwich-born star – who has ripped through the Divas division since making her debut on WWE’s main stage nearly a year ago – has demonstrated time and again she is not to be messed with, despite her immense popularity with fans across the globe.
So tremble in your wrestling boots, gents – you are the guys she’d like to face in an intergender confrontation.
MTV UK recently sat down with the 22-year-old backstage at a live event in New York and we quizzed her on the subjects you tweeted at us.
As well as Austin, the Lunatic Fringe and Bray, Paige also fancies taking on The Authority’s Stephanie McMahon.
“I think she’s the most incredible woman ever on the microphone,” she told us.
“And she can kick some booty in the ring, as we saw when she faced Brie Bella.
“I would love to go up against her, it would be absolutely fantastic and obviously it is another dream of mine to face the ultimate female McMahon. Hopefully in the future.”

Have you liked the way your character has changed in the last year?:
I like to keep changing and evolving character-wise, so it’s always nice to change it up. When I first came up I was like “Oh man, I can’t be this little, prissy babyface,” so it was kind of weird. And then turning heel was a blessing. I love it. I love being the bad guy. And I still get to act the same, but they cheer me now, so I like that. It kind of reminds me of Stone Cold, in that he could kind of keep his character and he could be either a heel or babyface, and that’s kind of what I’m trying to do right now. So I was a heel, and now I’m basically a heel that gets cheered.
Who has been your favorite Diva to work with?:
AJ was great. The Bella’s are great. Me and Summer (Rae) had such a fun time in NXT, and she was like the best heel down there. She was just incredible. I’d love to do something with her or Emma, because me and Emma had a good couple of matches in NXT on the PPVs, and I just miss her. I would love to do some storylines with her, or Sasha Banks, who’s one of the biggest heels and I love her.
Why do you think NXT is so popular?:
It’s a short show, and with the women, they get so much time. And they basically wrestle like the guys, but sometimes even better. So a lot of people tune in just for the girls sometimes. They completely kick ass. I absolutely miss being on the shows. And the guys are a lot of independent wrestlers. So you get all the fans that go on the independent scene to watch all their favorite wrestlers, but then WWE signs them and brings them in and they just kill it.
What do you think about Charlotte and the possibility of her being called up to WWE soon?:
She’s good. She’s still new, so I feel like at one point people want to see her, but they’re kind of rushing it. I think she could do with some more time, but I still think Sasha Banks is the one that I personally want to come up and who I think is completely ready and the full package, boxed up and ready to go. I feel like she’d be absolutely perfect up here. Charlotte is good, but (needs) some more time.
