WWE Superstars Paige And Charlotte on This Morning
Former WWE teammates Charlotte and Paige reunited for a surprise appearance on ITV daytime show This Morning .
The two Superstars – who used to be known as tagteam PCB – are in the UK for the London WWE RAW event where Charlotte will be battling to keep her title as the Women’s Champion.
Walking in through a cloud of smoke like they were walking into the ring, Charlotte proudly held her championship belt high as Paige tried to jokingly steal it.
The two women are somewhat of wrestling royalty, as Charlotte’s dad is the famous legend Ric Flair who is the 16-time WWE world heavyweight wrestling champion.
Speaking of how women’s wrestling had taken off, they explained the Wrestlemania performance was in front of a record-breaking attendance of 100,000 people.
The female wrestlers used to be known as Divas while the men were called Superstars, but as of a couple of weeks ago to make things more equal the Divas were retired and now all WWE wrestlers fall under the Superstar term.
While the two women said they happily welcome the rename, Paige – who is originally from Norwich – said she was a little sad about not being known as a ‘Diva’ any longer.
“I was a little bit sad about it just because when you grow up and you want to be a wrestler, I think about diva as WWE… I’m glad though that I’m part of the evolution. We’re equal to the men.”
Charlotte and Paige will be appearing at the WWE Raw which is being held at the O2 Arena across a series of events this week, will be aired on Sky Sports this evening.
Interview: TalkSPORT – Paige believes Ronda Rousey could ‘destroy’ everyone in WWE
Paige reckons Ronda Rousey could dish out a hiding to every member of WWE’s locker rooms, both male and female.
But the Brit star also believes she could get the better of the UFC headliner in the squared circle by following a uniquely WWE strategy – including licking Ronda’s face.
Asked how she’d handle UFC champ and WWE superman Rousey – tipped to feature at next’s year’s Wrestlemania, possibly in a match – if she came into her house, Paige joked to talkSPORT that sports entertainment was the only environment she would ever consider being matched up against the MMA ace.
Page laughed: “Otherwise she would totally destroy every single one of us, including the men!”
She reasoned: “There’s not really a strategy you can do but if it is in the wrestling ring, there’s her inexperience that kind of goes against her that way, y’know?
“But still, I wouldn’t want to mess with her! At any point she could say: ‘Eff this, I’m just going to put you in an armbar!’ And you’d have no choice, right?”
The Norwich-born crowd darling, part of the current WWE tour of the UK and Europe, added she may have to evade submission expert Ronda’s grappling attempts by dazzling her with some of her less conventional in-ring tricks to sneak a win.
Paige said: “Maybe I can do the old lick on the face, crawl over her, hope she freaks out and pin her from there.
“But no, I wouldn’t want to be first in line to take her on – she would kick my a***!”
– WWE continues to tour the UK until November 13. Hear more from Paige in her interview on talkSPORT’s Gorilla Position podcast, which drops later today on talksport.com/wwe and iTunes
The Sun UK: Paige – Rousey is huge for Divas’ revolution
PAIGE is backing Ronda Rousey to help sell out next year’s Wrestlemania — if the UFC headliner fancies getting back into a WWE ring.
The WWE star, 22, said she believes the MMA star has been a “huge” influence and catalyst for WWE’s ‘Divas’ revolution’, which has seen the Brit star link up with highly-acclaimed new talents Charlotte and Becky Lynch.
Paige also hailed the efforts of company execs Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque for devoting more TV time to the female performers’ division.
She said: “That’s the way the world’s going right now, with the whole Ronda Rousey phenomenon — and I’m proud of her for saying what she did to Floyd Mayweather.
“I was, like: ‘Good one!’
“She’s a great role model for all us women — and definitely, I feel like she’s a huge part of that [the Divas’ revolution] too.
“Just her appearance at ‘Mania really helped as well, and her main eventing UFC and just becoming such a dominant force in the entertainment and sports worlds.
“Yeah, I think it all the time, she’s amazing. It’s her, it’s all her!”
Bantamweight champ and confirmed WWE fan Rousey made a surprise in-ring appearance alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson at this year’s extravaganza in Santa Clara, California.
A sensational stand off with The Authority climaxed with Rousey bundling Triple H out of the ring with a judo throw that made front pages across the world.
However, Paige will not be drawn about what plans may be percolating behind the scenes for any possible future collaborations between Rousey and WWE.
Taking about the potential for a Wrestlemania return next April, Paige enthused about having Rousey aboard but stopped short of predicting a match might be made.
She said: “I hope [Ronda will be involved] too, but I have no idea. I have no idea. I’m just hoping I get a match on it!”
But Paige did suggest having Rousey on the bill could ensure WWE smash their all-time attendance record and pull in over 100,000 fans to the AT&T Stadium in Texas.
She added: “If Ronda makes an appearance and Dwayne makes an appearance, that’d be great. If Stephanie wrestles, who knows?
Last week, Triple H gave the clearest indication yet Rousey could make another appearance in WWE and be part of next year’s plans.
He said on Facebook: “There’s a lot of factors involved there.
“I think she loves what we do, we obviously are huge fans of hers.
“I think that the opportunity is there if she wants it to be.”
Congratulating her on her “unbelievable” UFC 190 fight with Bethe Correia, he acknowledged Rousey — set to star as herself in a Hollywood biopic of her own life — has a “lot of choices in front of her”.
He said: “She’s the hottest property in all of sports right now, maybe in the world.”
Video: Tough Enough Judges Paige, Hulk Hogan at Full Sail
‘WWE Tough Enough’ judges Paige and Hulk Hogan participated in a media event on Friday, June 19 to promote the weekly series which premieres 8/7C on Tuesday, June 23 on the USA Network. Paige and The Hulkster discussed the show, their careers, Dusty Rhodes and more from Full Sail University in Winter Park, near Orlando. Full Sail U continues its solid working relationship with WWE including being an integral part of ‘WWE Tough Enough.’
As Paige prepares to join WWE Tough Enough’s star-studded panel of judges, the two-time Divas Champion explains what qualities she’ll look for in contestants, and addresses the pains and aches awaiting them once TV’s most interactive reality series returns to USA Network on Tuesday, June 23.
Q: What excites you most about being a panelist on the new season of WWE Tough Enough?
A: I grew up watching WWE Tough Enough, so it’s so exciting to actually be a part of it. It’s a massive opportunity. How awesome is it that Daniel Bryan and Hulk Hogan are there, and that I get to work with Lita, who’s a trainer? I’m so excited! Plus, I get to meet one-on-one with people who want to be here, who are passionate about WWE — who want to be a Diva, who want to be a Superstar — so I’m thrilled about that.
Q: What are the qualities you look for?
A: I like people who are completely passionate about wrestling and not just there for the fame and fortune. They genuinely love the craft and love wrestling. People with great attitudes, because if you’re humble and sweet, you’re easier to work with and people want to work with you. Just being humble and hungry—constantly wanting to achieve more and do more and reach more goals. That’d be the all-around full package.
Q: What are the challengers of breaking into sports-entertainment via WWE Tough Enough, versus the more traditional paths?
A: Going from the indies, you have to work very hard but there’s less chance of being noticed. WWE Tough Enough is a good platform to go to first just because you’re instantly in people’s faces, which is great, and then you still have to be put through the paces, put through the training, just to see if you truly are tough enough. The show is perfectly named. It’s a lot harder to be in the public eye and in front of people the likes of Hulk Hogan and Lita. It’s going to be really tough for those guys, and I hope they get through it.
Q: What aspects of training to become a Superstar or Diva are most often overlooked by novices?
A: The biggest part is they just don’t realize how hard it is. If you watch it on TV, obviously it looks easier than it is. You have to get used to being hurt. This job does come with injuries. It’s not dance, it’s not ballet — it’s wrestling. They just have to overcome that obstacle. They’re going to feel aches, they’re going to feel pains and they’re going to be tired. If they become a Diva or Superstar, they’re going to be on the road constantly. You have to make a lot of sacrifices, but if you love the job, then it’s OK and you can get over it.
MTV UK: Paige Jokes She’s A ‘Scruffy Mess’ – As If!
Having kicked off in Glasgow last night, WWE is touring the UK RIGHT FLIPPING NOW – and one of the stars fans are most excited about seeing live is undoubtedly Norwich’s very own Paige.
As if it was in doubt, MTV has learned – because whenever we write about her, punters go gaga for articles her – she is one of WWE’s most popular performers.
MTV got the chance to chat to her the other week while we were in Wrestlemania and the modest 22-year-old said she wasn’t sure why she is so very, very over with WWE’s legions of fans.
“I have no idea where that came from,” she told us.
“I’m like the girl next door that doesn’t brush her hair, I’m relatable.
“When they see Eva Marie, they’re like: ‘We can’t speak to her, she’s way too pretty.’
“And they’re also like: ‘Hey Paige, scruffy mess, how you doing? We can be friends!’
“I like being like that.”
As if she could ever be described as a ‘scruffy mess’!
As a fixture on WWE’s programming, there’s also a valid argument to suggest Paige is currently one of TV’s biggest global stars to hail from the UK and consequently – to many international fans – a quintessential representation of what it means to be British.
But what kind of reaction does she get about being a famous Brit because of that?
“Everyone one thinks we’re all related to everyone else [that is British and in the public eye] or we talk to everyone else. I hear ‘How is Ozzy Osbourne?’ a lot and I’m like: ‘I don’t know, because he’s not my friend!’
“Or I hear: ‘How are the Beatles?’ ’I don’t know – and also, half of them, very sadly, aren’t with us any more.’
“I may look like I can channel spirits, but I can’! People also assume I must be a fan of Doctor Who…”
Finally — Paige sits down with Cheap Heat and meets David Shoemaker who professes his love (kind of). She also talks about her wrestling family, winning the WWE title her first night, and much much more.
A.K.A: Paige Born: August 17th, 1992 (23) From: Norwich, Norfolk, England NXT Debut: July 4th, 2012 WWE Debut: April 7th, 2014
Mini Bio: Paige is a raven-haired Diva who preaches a simple message: She wants to fight. She gained prominence inside the NXT Arena as the first NXT Women's Champion. A driven competitor, she first began battling when she was 13, following her family of English wrestlers and has never looked back. On the April 7 edition of Raw, Paige stunned the WWE Universe by challenging – and ultimately defeating AJ Lee to become the new Divas Champ!
